As a full time farmer you have to have an outlet to let loose and just have fun. Mine is dance. I have been clogging for around eight years now, and have danced with multiple teams. I am currently practicing with BMC, or the Bailey Mountain Cloggers of Mars Hill College. We are getting ready for BMC's Spring Concert in the first weekend of April. BMC is a college team, and so I am not officially a member yet, but I plan on graduating high school to go to Mars Hill College next spring and join them in competitions. I have gone to competitions with other teams in the past and won some trophies with team dances, as well as some for dancing solos and duets.
Here are some pictures of me and my duet partners.
I am also an avid contra dancer. Contra dancing is an old English form of line dance, where couples dance up and down a line set. Here in Asheville many of the dancers mix it up and throw moves from swing dancing in, whereas in other parts of the country the old English form is kept rigid and tight. The local dances around Asheville are much more free in form and thus it makes an altogether relaxing, fun experience. I go whenever I can, which is usually every Monday and Thursday. It is a form of therapy for me.
