Boone
Boone is a young border collie/kelpie cross, both of which are herding dog breeds. My mom and I got him from a border collie rescue, where his training had been started, in the spring of 2010. We struck lucky in that we found a very good herding dog trainer,Tina DiAngelo, available to train us in our area. During summer months, Tina would come out and teach Boone and I to be an effective team. Boone is about 2 years old and so still acts like a puppy much of the time, but he shows a lot of natural talent and he should settle down soon. Sometimes it takes a lot of effort on my part to get him to think about what he should be doing while herding
the goats, but when he starts thinking he works beautifully.
4/8/11 Today I worked Boone in the round pen at a Jack Knox clinic. Jack's main points to Boone and I were: for me to use a calmer, more authoritative voice when correcting Boone, and for Boone to keep off the livestock and slow down his movements. Also, as always, allow the rights and correct the wrongs.
